LOOKING GOOD: The Seminoles' offensive line held its own and created some holes for the running game. The problem was that FSU gave up running after trailing so badly in the early third quarter.

--The kickoff-return unit, led by speedster Michael Ray Garvin, was outstanding. The blockers nearly sprung Garvin for a touchdown on several returns.

--PK Graham Gano made all three field-goal attempts and was equally proficient as a punter with three kicks for nearly a 40-yard average, including one that he dropped out of bounds at the Gators' 7.

--RB Antone Smith averaged 4.8 yards on just 12 carries and fought off an ankle injury to keep playing hard.

--LB Derek Nicholson was the Seminoles' best defensive player, making six tackles, including two for loss yards and forcing a fumble that teammate Neefy Moffett recovered.

STILL NEEDS WORK: Just about everything.

--The Seminoles' receivers dropped six passes. WR Taiwain Easterling dropped a conversion pass right in the numbers on the Seminoles' first possession that could have resulted in a touchdown. Teammates Bert Reed and Preston Parker also had drops.

--The offense could not get a touchdown in the first half despite getting the ball deep in Florida territory on three occasions. The offensive performance raises issues about whether the Seminoles did the right thing by making Jimbo Fisher the head coach-in-waiting.

--The defense could not stop Florida on any possession in the first half. The Seminoles' secondary looked small and weak against Florida receivers.

--DE Everette Brown was a virtual no-show, thwarted by Florida tackle Phil Trautwein the entire game. Brown had only one assisted tackle in the game after a dominating performance the week before against Maryland, when he was named the national Defensive Player of the Week.

--SS Myron Rolle was beaten in space by Florida playmakers on several big gains. He failed to come up and make big hits that could have stopped touchdowns or long gains.

ROSTER REPORT:

--CB Patrick Robinson (knee) learned he did not have any torn ligaments. Robinson sustained the injury in the first half and did not return.

--WR Preston Parker (ankle) was not the same after sustaining his injury in the first half, but he continued to play. The same was true for TB Antone Smith.

--Florida State kept an injury to QB Christian Ponder (back) secretive all week, but Bowden admitted that Ponder did not practice Wednesday and Thursday prior to the Florida game. He sustained his injury in the Maryland game, but it did not worsen until mid-week.

--QB D'Vontrey Richardson hinted after the game he is likely to give up playing football and devote his full energy to baseball, where he's well regarded as an outfielder and pro prospect. That played into the Seminoles' decision to go with Drew Weatherford in the second half despite Weatherford's limited playing time this season.
