Oklahoma Notes, Quotes
SCOUTING THE OFFENSE: The question is not whether or not this is one of the best offenses in Sooners history, but whether it's one of the best in college football history. Heading into the Big 12 championship game, Oklahoma is averaging 53.3 points per game, 7.1 yards per play, 10 yards per pass attempt, 14.7 per completion and 4.7 per rush. The No. 1 and No. 2 tailbacks, DeMarco Murray and Chris Brown, are averaging a collective 5.7 per carry. Over the Sooners' last five games, they have scored 58, 62, 66, 65 and 61 points while gaining 528, 508, 653, 625 and 557 yards.
SCOUTING THE DEFENSE: It's hard to be as clear on this one, because against the rest of the Big 12, it's actually better than most, yet the raw numbers are nothing like the Sooner Nation is used to. Oklahoma is allowing 359.5 yards and 24.8 points per game. On the other hand, nobody played Texas Tech better than Oklahoma defensively; then again, Oklahoma State just scored 41 points and gained 452 yards. Still, the Sooners defense continues to force turnovers, including two more against the Cowboys. Even giving up 41 points, Oklahoma still made big defensive plays over the final few minutes to secure its Bedlam victory.QUOTE TO NOTE: "In the end it's your whole body of work through the year and how you've played down the stretch. I feel the way we have played down the stretch has been pretty incredible. We had over 60 points for four straight games, and three of those games I don't think Sam Bradford has played more than maybe a series during the fourth quarter. So we've played well and put ourselves in this position." -- Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, on reaching the Big 12 title over Texas and Texas Tech by way of being the highest-rated team of the three in the BCS standings. |
