Texas Notes, Quotes
SCOUTING THE OFFENSE: Practically any good team in the Big 12 will point to its star quarterback and declare him the team MVP. That holds true for Texas, which not only rides the arm of junior QB Colt McCoy, but it also depends on him for both designed runs and effective scrambles. His improvement over his shaky sophomore season remains as impressive as any of the strides made by a Big 12 quarterback. His accuracy is amazing, and the play of his offensive front is consistently solid.
SCOUTING THE DEFENSE: Texas seems to be hitting its stride defensively at the end of the season, holding its last two opponents to 16 points total. The Longhorns have been good against the rush all season, and they flexed their muscles by holding Texas A&M to minus-24 yards on the ground, a stat boosted by six sacks. Putting heat on the quarterback is, perhaps, the best way to defend explosive spreads, and the Texas pass rush is as good as any in the country, generating 44 sacks.QUOTE TO NOTE: "They've been so much fun, they've worked hard and they were one play away from being number one in the country and undefeated. The loss (at Texas Tech) didn't start well, but they fought their guts out to come back and go ahead. I really think this team is special." -- Texas coach Mack Brown. |
