Homestead-Miami Speedway is a great facility, and the racing there has been very exciting in recent years.

One of the reasons for that added excitement is the track layout. When the leadership group at Homestead-Miami Speedway decided to reconfigure the track in 2003 and added the variable banking in the corners, it made a world of difference. Now the track feels like a proper place to crown all three NASCAR champions.

This 1.5-miler is wide open, making it very difficult to predict who the favorite to win Sunday's Sprint Cup Series finale — the Ford 400.

The basics

Track length: 1.5-miles
Banking in corners: 18-20 degrees (variable banking)
Banking in straights: 4 degrees
Frontstretch: 1,760 feet
Backstretch: 1,760 feet
First Cup race: Nov. 14, 1999

Distance: 267 laps/400.5 miles
Defending polesitter: Jimmie Johnson
Defending race winner: Matt Kenseth

The record book

Most poles: Kurt Busch (2)
Most wins: Greg Biffle (3)
Most top fives: Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin (4)
Most top 10s: Jeff Gordon (7)

Homestead fast facts

  • Jack Roush is the winningest car owner at Homestead-Miami Speedway with five Sprint Cup wins, two Nationwide Series victories and one Craftsman Truck Series triumph
