BCS National Championship Game Dominates Twitter
Title Game Was Five of the Top Ten Trending Topics.
The VIZIO BCS National Championship Game between No. 1 Florida State and No. 2 Auburn simply dominated the popular social media site Twitter on Monday night, as fans sent 4.4 million game-related tweets, according to Twitter and Nielsen SocialGuide. Immediately following the game, fans took to Twitter and generated 85,822 tweets per minute. The game was the subject of five of the top ten trending topics, according to Trends24.
A screen shot from the Trends24 site at approximately 10:45 Eastern Time on January 6, 2014 shows that the BCS-related topics in the top ten were #BCSChampionship; #FSUvsAUB; Touchdown Auburn; Tre Mason and Jameis Winston.
"This is yet another sign that the BCS National Championship Game has become such a significant part of American culture," said Bill Hancock, Executive Director of the BCS. "This game was certainly one for the books, and the remarkable attention it received both on television and on social media just reflects the passion people have for this sport."
